Redeployment

 Introduction

If a suitable position exists you might be eligible to be 'redeployed' within the Local Authority in another capacity. Your employer will not of course create a post for you, but will ask you to complete a 'Matching Profile,' similar to a 'C.V.,' after which you may be asked to meet with an officer from 'Personnel Services' to assess the situation. 'Job Opportunities Bulletins' from your local authority should then be made available to you. If a suitable job appears then you should contact your 'Personnel Officer.'

You should obtain a copy of your Local Authority's 'Redeployment Policy'. You are likely to find that after around 6 months you will be dismissed if you have not been successful in gaining redeployment. If you turn down job opportunities or you fail to get a post at interview and cannot give acceptable reasons for the failure, then again you may be dismissed. On the other hand you have a right to clear feedback on any failure at interview and you are able to ask for a reasonable 'match' in regard of pay, the type of job, the hours and the location of any post.

The Formal Warning

If you fail to gain a new post within your authority at any early stage then the procedure for dismissal will be started so as to prepare the ground for the act itself, which will take place when the reasonable period of time set aside for redeployment has been deemed by the local authority to have expired.

You will be called in to a meeting at which a  Formal Warning issued in verbal and written form. You should be accompanied by a representative from your professional association.
